Proud of her Chimayó heritage, Alicia frequently referred to herself as a "Chimayosa," and celebrated New Mexico's diverse cultures with a special love for Native American Art and Jewelry which she constantly displayed on her person and in her home. Her love for American Indian Jewelry and Art was only surpassed by her love for the Native American people. A woman ahead of her time, she taught us all to appreciate the differences in other people, and embrace these differences with respect and sensitivity. Her understanding and compassion for others, instilled in her children a keen sense of right and wrong, and she expected nothing less of them.
A Rosary was recited on 16 September 2010 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian Burial was on 17 September 2010 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Española. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Cemetery.
