"SAVANNAH, Mo. -- Louis Benton Allen, Sr., 78, Savannah, died Sunday, March 22, 1998, at the Hands of Hope Hospice in St Joseph.

Mr. Allen had been employed as a television technician for Montgomery Ward and Co., in St Joseph, retiring in 1983 after 18 years. He had been a radio and television technician for the former Crawford & Greesly Electric, and self-employed with Tuck & Allen Television, both of Savannah. He had also operated the projector for the former Globe Theater in Savannah and was a licensed amateur radio operator.

Born near Union Star, Mo., on Sept. 28, 1919, he had spent most of his life in the Savannah area. Mr. Allen was a member of the United Methodist Church, Savannah, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. He was a former volunteer fireman with the Savannah Volunteer Fire Department, former volunteer night watchman for the City of Savannah and a volunteer for the Hands of Hope Hospice in St Joseph.

On July 23, 1938, he married May Rauch in Oregon, Mo. She died in 1992. Mr. Allen was also preceded in death by a son, Marvin A.; his parents, Rev. Marvin L. and Cecilia M.; a brother, Lawrence N.; and two sisters, Deloris A. Warner and Hazel M. Sunderland.

Surviving are a son, Louis B., Jr., of Arnold, Mo.; two daughters, Lois M. Maag of St Joseph and Paula M. Bednarek of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Richard L. of St Joseph; a sister, Eva Scoggins of Forbes, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
