Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Salmon Cone celebrated their golden wedding Saturday evening, March 19th, at their residence, where Mrs. Cone was born in 1810, the farm being then owned by her father, Mr. Colwell, who built the first house and made the first improvements in the neighborhood. He also built the first blacksmith shop and did the first smith work for the inhabitants as they settled in this section. Mr. and Mrs. Cone were married fifty years ago by Jabez A. Tracy, Esq. They have passed the fifty years of their married life either upon the farm where they now reside or near it. They have raised a numerous and respectable family. Four sons, who served during the late rebellion, were present with their wives. Also, their daughters, Mrs. Grist and Mrs. Green, of Toledo, and their youngest daughter, Lydia Cone, a teacher in Nebraska, was home on a vacation. A large number of grandchildren, neighbors and friends filled their large home and many nice and valuable presents were made the venerable couple for which they were very grateful. Harvey Woodworth made a short address, which was responded to by Mr. D. O. Carter.
