Rhoda (Strong) Spivey passed away Wednesday, July 6, 1994 at the Madison Manor Nursing Home in Richmond, Ky at the age of 100 years, 4 months, & 4 days. She was born in Jackson Co, Ky on Mar 2, 1894 to the late D.B. (Jeff) & Narcissus Bowles Strong. Seven brothers & sisters preceded her in death.
In 1917 she was united in marriage to Clay Spivey who preceded her in death forty-seven years ago. To this union was born four children. The oldest son, Emmett, preceded her in death forty years ago. Surviving are one son, Arnold & his wife Ollie May Spivey of Williamsburg, Ky, two daughters; Lucy Carter of Berea, Ky & Alma Gard & her husband, Robert Gard of Connersville, Ind. & a daughter-in-law, Jewell Spivey of Lexington, Ky, four grandchildren & seven great-grandchildren.
Her faith was Primitive Baptist, but she attended all denomination services at the nursing home as long as she was able. She was loved by everyone that knew her & she returned that love many times by giving a helping hand to anyone that needed her, through sickness or hunger. This kind of Mother is becoming extinct.
Services were held Saturday, July 9th, 1994 at 11:00 AM at Lakes Funeral Home in McKee, Ky with Rev. Carroll DeForest officiating. Burial was in the Tyner Cemetery at Tyner, Ky. Lakes Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were : Jeff & Kevin Ward, Robert Gard, Johnny & Chris Simpson, & Jack & Crayton Frost.
