Mother of Virgil Joyhue Brown, Jr. Etta was born near Robbinsville, North Carolina, as the ninth of 11 children of Miller and Julia Elizabeth Davis. She married Dr. Virgil Brown, who practiced in Robbinsville and relocated to Buckhead, Macon County, Georgia. Dr. Brown died in 1934 and is buried in the cemetery in Buckhead along with Etta's twin infants who died at birth. An iron post marks what was reserved as Etta's unused burial plot. Etta moved later in life to Wenatchee, Washington, to live with her son and died in 1965. She is buried in Washington beside her son, whose nickname "Georgia" Brown is inscribed on his marker.
