After graduation, she worked for the Red Cross blood bank in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She later moved to Petoskey, Michigan, where she ran the blood bank for Little Traverse Hospital. While living in Petoskey, she met her husband, Charles Baumgartner. They were married May 20, 1950.
She and her husband moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan where they lived for 17 years. They then lived in Tupelo, Mississippi, for 10 years, where she was a substitute teacher in the local school and hosted an interview show for the local Tupelo TV station.
She resided in Fort Smith, Arkansas, for 25 years, where she worked as a nurse supervisor at Fort Chaffee for Cuban refugees after the Cuban boatlift.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the adult choir for many years and taught classes on occasion.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Thomas of Friendswood, Texas, Timothy of Houston, Texas, and Todd of Carrollton, Texas; a sister, Betty Arnold of Carlisle; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Services were held at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
