Albert Frederick Schabel, visionary businessman and beloved Pappoo, passed away February 12 at his home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was 102. He and his wife Lovella had lived in Bethany Oklahoma, Oklahoma City and Geary Oklahoma prior to that. He was born April 12, 1901 in Selbina Missouri. Albert joined Olivet Baptist Church in 1913 where he and his parents were charter members. Albert lead a busy life, never walked when he could run to get something accomplished. He was a man of many careers. He stood in line at the Ford Motor Plant in Oklahoma City for a job and when that didn't work, he dressed in a suit and went in the front door and asked for a job. He didn't care how dirty, he just wanted to work. He received the job and laughed when he told stories of how grubby it was. He was very proud of being a part of Ford. Several men in the oil industry hired him to be a land man. Sid Richardson was one of them. Real estate was another facet of his careers, buying and selling for companies. Charles Schweinle and Albert were business partners in an insurance agency called Schweinle Schabel Insurance Agency. John Carlton, Albert's nephew recalls the time Albert had a LIVE turkey delivered to Charles while Albert sat in his car on the street just to see what happened! Playing Santa Claus at the orphanage in Bethany was one of the things Albert really looked forward to. He loved being around the children. Albert also thought Bethany, Oklahoma was something special. Seeing a need in Bethany he asked T G & Y, Humpty Dumpy Grocers and C R Anthony if they would commit to opening their business in downtown Bethany if he provided buildings to accommodate them. Today those same buildings house businesses in downtown Bethany. Being a businessman and also a real estate agent, Albert had an eye for property. He had a vision concerning a certain piece of property when he drove by and saw it was for sale. He took his vision and idea to some businessmen for their help and was turned down flat. Albert thought and prayed about this and was answered. He called C R Anthony who told Albert to meet him and some other businessmen in Harvey Everest's office. Mr. Everest was the President of one of the leading banks in Oklahoma City. In 1963 the vision was born, Community Bank at 39th and MacArthur, which is now a branch of First Fidelity Bank. December 31, 1969, Albert married Lovella Benbrook in Geary Oklahoma on their beloved farm, Paradise Hill. This brings us to yet another branch of Albert's life, farming/ranching. Oh how Albert loved being on his tractor or watching his animals graze and get fat. Course all the animals were pets...They also knew when Albert had something in his pocket for them. Albert loved to have his nephew, John, and his wife Diane, and their children Amy and Alan visit and enjoy the farm with him and Lovella. This leads to another career in Albert's life, Grandfather. A grandchild was born May 21, 1974. Albert and Monica Bell were inseparable for most of her childhood. He was involved with her almost on a daily basis, from babyhood on through chicken pox, dirty diapers and college. She now lives in Leesburg, Virginia although they talked often. Albert is survived by many family members, his wife, Lovella Schabel of their home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Nephew, John and his wife Diane Carleton of Tulsa Oklahoma, their children Amy and Alan. Niece, Shirley and her husband Bob Robinson of Dallas Texas and their children David and Susan.
