DEATH OF MRS. W. W. BAKER
_______

Well-Known Portland Woman Succumbs to a Great Grief.

_____

Mrs. Isabel F. baker, wife of W. W. Baker, died yesterday evening at her home, 388 Eleventh Street. Although ill and in bed for six weeks, the end came very suddenly. The cause of her death is sympathetic prostration, brought on by grief over the death of her only daughter, Mary, last April.

Mr. Baker, whose maiden name was Hackney, was born in Finley, Ohio, May 11, 1828. While quite young, she moved with her parents to Illinois, and then to Wapato County, Iowa, where she was married on March 4, 1840. She came to Oregon in 1853, three years after her husband, and for four years resided with him on a donation claim at Baker's Landing, on the Columbia. She then accompanied her husband to Portland, where she lived until 1865, when she removed to Union County and stayed there 10 years. Coming to Portland in 1875, she made this city her residence ever since.

Mrs. Baker was known to all as an intelligent woman, with a kind and loving disposition. She was very motherly also, and showed great affection to her children, of whom she had, eight, and of whom two are now living - Frank C., formerly state printer, and Joshua W.

Morning Oregonian.; Date: 01-09-1900

Isabell Frances Baker's remains were first buried in, Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery, located in, Portland, on the east side of the Willamette River. The remains were later removed and placed where they are presently located, in Riverview Cemetery. Lone Fir Cemetery, has a record showing the date of burial, as 10 January 1900, and the Plot Number: Block 21, Lot 41, Burial Space 2S. The reason for moving the remains is likely the need for more room.
