He served his country in the Army Air Corps, as a Ball Turret gunner. He and his brother, William were also in the Young American Patriots of West Virginia.
Joe Jr., was first generation Canellas born in the U.S. and second generation coal miner. His life cut short by a coal mining accident.
Joe was the son of Joe Canellas Sr. & Arizona Sturgill.
He had nine children in his short life, one daughter by his first wife Gertrude Mullett, and eight children by his second wife.
Note: Surname on stone is spelled incorrectly. There should be only one "n" in Canellas.
