Lillian Fern Jorgesen, 90, of Napa, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at a local convalescent center.

Born Jan. 5, 1920, in Badger, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late George and Lillie Gangstead Larson. She attended St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and afterward worked at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. As a young lady, she moved to Southern California, where she continued her nursing career and unfortunately was stricken with tuberculosis and forced to spend a number of years in a sanitarium. After regaining her health, she continued her work in nursing. In the early 1960s she made Napa her home, and for more than 15 years served on the staff of the California Veterans Home's Holderman Hospital in Yountville.

Lillian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley Jorgesen, in 1981, and by her loving sister, Helen Brockman, in 2007. She is survived by her two sisters, Vivian Wesley of Napa, and Thelma Gabisch and her husband Michael, of Oakland; brother, George Larson and his wife Elna, of Seattle, Wash.; 11 nieces and nephews, and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 10, at Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel, 623 Coombs St., Napa. Private committal will be at a later date in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, Calif., with her husband, Stanley.
