KINDER — Funeral service for Mrs. Chaumont, 84, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church of Oberlin. The Rev. Felix Anyikwa will officiate. Burial will follow in Oberlin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of service with a rosary at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Chaumont was born in Kinder and had been a resident of Oberlin and Lafayette. She was a graduate of Oberlin High School and a 1950 graduate of SLI (UL-Lafayette).
Prior to her retirement, she was a business teacher in Cameron, St. Landry and Allen parishes. After her retirement from the public school system, she wasemployed at USL as associate director of the Office of Alumni Affairs; Avenues to Travel in Lafayette and executive director for the Housing Authority of the Town of Oberlin.
She had been a member of various civic and religious organizations including Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Choir and Catholic Daughters of America in Washington, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church Choir, CCD teacher and Catholic Daughters of America in Oberlin.
She had been a member of the La. Teachers Associaton, the Lafayette Jr. Miss Board of Directors, Allen Parish Fair Pageant Committee and was a charter member of the La. Pageant Judges Associaton. Mrs. Chaumont was also very involved in 4-H and FBLA programs.
Survivors include three daughters, Terry Thibodeaux and husband, Mickey of Lafayette, Peggy Heintz and husband, Jerry of Kinder and Nancy Cronan and husband, "Trash" of Sweet Lake; two sons, Charles R. Chaumont and wife, Lynn of Austin, Texas and Scott M. Chaumont of Lafayette, who lived with and cared for his mother; one sister, Luna Rose Ardoin of Eunice; nine grandchildren;eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Roland Chaumont; her parents, Ostay and DeRosia Bergeron LeJeune; two brothers, Clement LeJeune and Norbert LeJeune ;and one sister, Anne LeJeune "Jane" Burleson Popplewell.
Pallbearers will be Mike and Matthew Thibodeaux of Lafayette, Chris Thibodeaux of Muncy, Pa., Jay Sonnier of Iowa, La., Keith Doise of Lake Charles and Scott Chaumont of Lafayette. Honorary pallbearers will be C.J. LeJeune and Ray Ardoin, Grant Sonnier and Alex Chaumont.
