The following obituary clipping was found in the Bell family bible by Nadine Bell Massari great grand daughter of Eliza, with no date or name of newspaper. Copies of the Bell pictures were provided by Nadine.
Eliza W. Mahan was born in Mercer County, Kentucky March 30, 1823. She moved to Hendricks County when she was 9 years old. At the age of sixteen she joined the Christian church at New Winchester and lived afterwards in that faith.
She and William Bell were married in 1843 and to them were born three children - John T. Bell and Mrs. Mollie Holman, of Danville,(Indiana) and Woodson Bell of Craig, Neb.
She was left a widow in 1854 and in 1858 she and Joseph P. Lewis were married. To this union were born three children - L.T. Lewis, of Nebraska, William T. Lewis, of Iowa, and Mrs. Leach of Missouri. There is also a step - son living in Champaine, Ills. Her children are all living. In Bedford, Iowa, are two sisters who are the survivors of her father's family of twelve children. There are 37 grandchildren and 16 great - grandchildren The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Crabtree assisted by Rev. Dunlavy, with interment at Stilesville (Indiana).
