John came to New Winchester, Indiana with wife Nancy and children from near Danville, Kentucky (part of Perryville at the time now Danville since 1842)in abt.1833 right at the time that New Winchester was founded. Their property was located on the west corner where road 550w tees into road 100n the present day owner said that in 1980 when he bought the property it had 2 cemeteries with a few markers all gone when I talked with him, one cemetery location was in a muddy pasture near a stream tramped by cattle. John's son James sold 80acres of the property in 1846 donating 1 - 2/3rds acres to the Baptist Church for the building of a meeting house it stands today on SR 36. It has a small cemetery with a few graves one being Moses Cavett an executor of John's will there's a chance the cemetery was already there when the church was built. There's also the Higgins cemetery near by. John's son James A. married Jacynthia Bronaugh F.A.G. #24479061 the daughter of Thomas Bronaugh a founder of New Winchester, IN.

John and Nancy had 9 children.
