1st Sgt. Jerry Lonnie Sloan, USMC, Retired, 71 of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at Memorial Satilla Health.

Born in Waycross, GA on April 2, 1948, he had moved to Blackshear in the early '90's. Jerry retired from the US Army after 26 years of service and went on to retire from Ware State Prison. He was a past commander of the VFW Post 4382, was a member of the Blackshear Masonic Lodge, #270, and loved all things pertaining to history. Jerry was a member of Waresboro Church of God where he was a former Sunday school teacher.

He was a son of the late Hubert William & Rena Faye Courson Sloan. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rhonda Proctor and Janelle Hickox; and a brother, Elbert Sloan.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 20 years, Susan Joyner Sloan of Blackshear; a daughter and son-in-law, Caprecia & Ton Betchan of Perry, OK; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry & Larissa Sloan of Still Water, OK and Tommy & Leigh Sloan of Hinesville, GA; two step-sons and a step-daughter-in-law, James & Jill Boatright of Odum, and Brantley Boatright of Bristol; a sister and brother-in-law, Connie & Georgia Dryden of Hoboken; four brothers and three sister-in-law, Jimmy & Marion Sloan of Hartsville, SC, Hubert "Huz" Sloan of Blackshear, Robert & Glenda Griffin of Douglas, and Tony & Michelle Griffin of Blackshear; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; his little Yorkie, Cooper; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services for Jerry will be held Saturday afternoon, December 28, 2019, at 2 o'clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
