The son of James and Martha Craig Burhans, he was born August 20, 1879, in Rock County. He was married to Elsie Fetherston February 1, 1905 at Six Corners by the Rev. McClelland, Methodist Church minister. They farmed in the Milton area until 1944, after which he was employed at The Burdick Corporation, Milton, until his retirement from there in 1950. Mr. and Mrs. Burhans observed their 60th wedding anniversary Feb. 1, 1965. Charles was a life-long resident of Rock County. He died in Mercy Hospital, Janesville, following an illness. Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Eva) Gilbert of Evansville and Mrs. Alex (Gladys) Andreski of Janesville; three sons, James, Edwin and Howard Burhans, all of Janesville; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; also one brother, William Burhans of Fort Atkinson. Preceding him in death was a daughter, Margaret Mae, who died in infancy.
