He was the son of Charles and Elsie Burhans. Jim was a retired firefighter with the Janesville Fire Department and capped a 27-year career by attaining the title of Fire Chief. Jim never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed playing cards, and he danced a mean Polka. Friends and family will miss his fun-loving nature and sharp wit. He passed away on March 17, 2008, just four days after his 95th birthday. Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Jerry (Milly) and Lyle (Judy); grandchildren: James (Mandi), Jodi, Jackie (Greg), Tara (Keith), and Jon (Wendy); brothers, Edwin and Howard; also several stepdaughters, stepsons, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, E. Lucille in 1966; his second wife, Maxine in 1989; and two sisters, Eva Gilbert and Gladys Andreski.
