Mrs. John E. Larrabee.
Louise J. Leavenworth, widow of
John B. Larrabee, passed away at her
home. No. 307 Guy Park avenue, this
morning at 10 o'clock, aged 60 years.
Mrs. Larrabee underwent a serious
operation last August, and has not
been in good health since that time.
She was able to be about at times,
however, until a week ago, when her
condition became critical. She gradually
grew worse and the end came today.
It Is with sincere regret that
friends will learn of her death.
Mrs. Larrabee was born in Amsterdam,
May 16th 1863, the daughter of
Edwin T. and Catherine Elizabeth
Leavenworth. The early portion of
her life was spent as a resident in this
city and in New York. On February
6th 1889. she was united in marriage
to John B. Larrabee also a native of
Amsterdam, and a widely known hardware
dealer. Two daughters survive
as a result of this union, which was
brought to a sad end by the death of
Mr. Larrabee, June 30, 1911. Following
the death of her husband, Mrs. Larrabee
continued his well established
business, under the name of the John
B. Larrabee company, and proved herself
a woman of excellent business
ability.
Mrs. Larrabee was active in religious
and social circles, being a member
of the Second Presbyterian church
and a teacher in the Snnday school.
Previous to Mr. Larrabce's death, Mra.
Larrabee taught a class of boys, but
just before his end she was obliged to
relinquish this position. However,
since that time, another class of boys
had been given into her keeping, and
under her direction the two classes
which she had Instructed were formed
Into the Boys' club, now a thriving organization,
and one which it is expected
will be a large factor in the new
Y. M. C. A.
Mrs. Larrabee was an honorary
member of the Good Will club and of
the Century club, holding the office of
recording secretary In the latter society.
She was a useful woman in this
city, and a person of good judgment
and untiring energy, always willing to
do something to help others, even at
a sacrifice to herself. It is among
these people that the loss of her presence
will be most deeply felt.
Besides her mother, who is at present
in Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. Larrabee
is survived by her daughters,
Hilda and Katherine L. Larrabee, both
of this city: three brothers, Edwin T.
F. Leavenworth, of Los Angeles,
Warner Leavenworth, of this city;
two sisters, Mrs. Karl T. Riz, of Los
Angeles, and Miss Elizabeth S. Leav-
enworth, of Brooklyn. The funeral
services will be held at the home Friday
afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev.
Dr. H. T. McEwen officiating. Interment
will be in the family plot in
Green Hill.
