Sarah was born as the daughter of John Denman (c1795-1852) and Hannah Ede (c1790-?). She immigrated to Upper Canada with her parents in 1836 as part of the Petworth Project. It was aboard the ship 'Heber' that she met Jamaes Clement. They married 28 Oct 1844 in Gore District by Rev. John Winterbotham. 9 children were born to this marriage:
