Grandma remembers a story that her mom (Viola) would talk about, when M-13 was being constructed Claud worked on it. One day a gas truck blew it's horn & scared the horses & they ran away, throwing Claud off the wagon. He broke his sholder and arm, and maybe some ribs. Viola put salt in grain bags & he would lift them higher each day--and each day the bag would get heavier.

Claud raised pigs & chickens on top of being a farmer. He loved horses & other animals. He was a perfectionist when it came to his fields. Grandma Doris remembers that they once were driving down the road, and her father (Claud) stopped the wagon, and made her and Uncle Bernard get out with him and pick the Wild Muster plants out of a strangers field. Grandma says the one thing she remembers most about him, is that he was a "slow," big man.

Obituary says "...died at Memorial Hospital at 4:30 o'clock this morning following a long illness. He had been under treatment at the hospital for several days." Officially he died of Peritonitis--after an operation for appendicitis.
