Lenora Alice Choate was born in Harrisburg, Harris County, Texas, to the late Pryor Holston Choate and Amanda Horton (Bullock) Choate. On December 7, 1887, she married Henry Cornelius Sproles in Limestone County, Texas and they moved to Lee County in the vicinity of Old Dime Box, Texas. On Oct. 4, 1890, she gave birth to their only child, Samuel Houston Sproles. Upon the dissolution of this marriage, she married again and had two daughters. She married twice more with her final marriage occurring on June 26, 1916, to John B. Hearne in Dallas, Texas.
Lenora has lived in Waco for the last 60 years of her life and was a seamstress with J. M. Wood Mfg. Co., retiring in 1939.
She was preceded in death by her son, Samuel Houston Sproles, on October 21, 1963.
She is survived by daughters, Alma Lee Ray, of Amarillo and Juanita "Nita" Steele, of Waco; daughter-in-law, Marie Ramsaier Sproles, of Waco; grandchildren: Samuel H. Sproles, Jr., Ruth L. Sproles Parker, Clifford Ray, Lenora Dickson, Betty Jean Ray, Edward and Clarence Steele; and great-grandchildren: Samuel G. Sproles and wife, Frances, Barbara Sproles Hessler, Ruth M. Johnston, Perry D. Brown, Robin A. Brown, Shirley Yvonne Steele, Curtis Steele and Jerry Steele.
