AURORA, MO — Melvin W. Forrester, age 91, of Aurora, Mo., passed away at 1:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Mount Vernon.

He was born on Feb. 25, 1919, in Marionville, Mo., the son of Charles and Beulah (Fricks) Forrester.

Melvin was a 1937 graduate of Aurora High School and was a World War II Army veteran.

He was the owner of the Western Auto Store in Baxter Springs, Kan., for 30-plus years and a very active member of the Baxter Springs Chamber of Commerce.

In 1978, he retired and moved back to Aurora.

He was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, loved to be outside working in his garden and was known for sharing his tomatoes.

On May 12, 1940, he married Leona Irene McKinley in Aurora. She preceded him death on March 29, 1995.

Those surviving him include his brother, Charles E. Forrester and his wife, Anna Lee, of Monett, Mo.; one great-niece, Lanell Gold, of Springfield; and several other nieces and nephews.

His parents; one brother, Wilburn L. Forrester; and one sister, Verna Morgan also preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, with burial to follow in the Maple Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 6, at the funeral home chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. John's Hospice in care of the funeral home.
