Sarah J. Hunt was the fifth child of John Austin Hunt and Amanda Jane Caudell Hunt. She was about 9 years old when the family moved from Johnson County, Arkansas, to the West Harmony community in extreme southwest Sebastian County, Arkansas.
At that time many of the extended family lived in Indian Territory, but maintained (West) Hartford as their post office and West Harmony as their church and school.
Sarah married John Henry Fortner at Greenwood, Arkansas, on December 17, 1882, and they were to have six children, as follows: William Austin Fortner, married Bertie Kembrow; Clinton Brown Fortner; Effie Emily Fortner, married William Henry Johnson; Matilda Fortner, married Mr. Haynes; Alice Bell Fortner, married Mr. Evans; and James Frank Fortner, married Jessie L Goforth.
Sarah died soon after the youngest was born in 1896. Sarah was buried in an unmarked grave in Mountain View Cemetery, which is adjacent to the Mountain View Baptist church, which her parents and two ministers founded in 1889 (see photo of corner stone).
John Henry Fortner married second in September 1897 to Ada J. Heathcost, and they were to have five children.
