Albert Howard went by "A.H." He might have been named for his German immigrant grandfather Albrecht Remmele.

He was the founder of A.H. Smith & Sons building supply and sand and gravel company that operated at the location of today's Marietta Harbor. It had business property on both the east and west sides of the Muskingum River and also operated a river dredge there. The company was the predecessor to Smith Concrete that later moved to Reno. The Smith family sold the company in 1971.

A.H. and Lucy married Dec. 23, 1897, at Harmar Congregational Church and lived at 104 Pearl St., Harmar.

They had two sons, Howard Dewey "H.D." and Clarence. All share Oak Grove Cemetery.

H.D. had one son, Richard. Clarence had no children.
