DEXTER - Frederick S. Olson, 88, died Feb. 2, 2005, at a Dexter healthcare facility. He was born Dec. 17, 1916, on a farm in Garland, the son of John and Gertrude (Pierson) Olson. He attended Garland schools and graduated from Garland High School, Class of 1934. After high school, Fred lived and worked on the farm until 1964.

He was a member of the 4-H Club and served as a local leader of 4-H from 1936 to 1950. Fred joined the Garland Grange in 1934, and served as secretary from 1937 to 1942. He was also a member of the Pomona and State Granges. He was a Past Master and 60-year member of the Pacific Masonic Lodge AF & AM. He was town manager for several local communities including China, Garland, Exeter, Howland, and Bradford. He later was a district agent for Modern Woodmen of America Life Insurance Company.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel (Batchelder) Olson of Dexter; a son, David Olson of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Diane and her husband, Michael Goodwin of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren, Eric and his wife, Katie Goodwin of Davidson, N.C., and Emily Goodwin of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Oscar and his wife, Carolyn Olson, of Pittsfield, Mass.; a sister, Ingrid Clark of Portland; two special cousins, Pauline Perrin of Florida, and Douglas Rosie of Rhode Island; many nieces and nephews.
Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Garland. (Bangor Daily News
