Services for Weldon B. Davis, 85, of Lufkin were held March 29, 2002 at the Elwin Gibson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Father: Orville Davis Mother: Dora Alice Bundy
Mr. Davis grew up in Lacy-Lakeview, a suburb of Waco. He attended Texas A & M University.
He married Helen Katherine Morgan on June 9, 1935.
He worked multiple part-time jobs to get his new family through the Great Depression and then followed the millwright trade until moving to Lufkin in 1940 to run a cabinet and sign shop of the Texas Forest Service's Lufkin District Office.
He joined the U S Army Home Guard immediately after Pearl Harbor and shipped out in 1943 to serve as a Tech Sargeant with the 749th Engineer Base Equipment Co., in the Pacific Theater. He sustained a service-related injury in the Philippines and was awarded a Purple Heart and honorable discharge in Oct 1945.
He returned to Lufkin to resume his position with the Texas Forest Service. On December 1, 1953, he accepted the position of construction supervisor with Perry Bros. He held that position for 26 years.
He was a 32nd degree Mason.
