Betsy Lou was the second of four children born to Robert W. and Maxine (Hashagen) Callihan. The family lived in Spokane, and Betsy graduated from Rogers High School.

Betsy married William L. Benson September 1, 1961 in Spokane, Washington. They had three children: Kimberly Anne; Kelly Kaye; Jody Lynn.

BENSON, Betsy Callihan 223 E. Willis Rd, died on October 11, 1990 at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital after an extended illness. She was born May 20,1943 in Spokane.

Betsy had lived in Spokane, Pullman. WA, Moorehead, MN, and Ellensburg, WA since 1968. She worked as a secretary at the Army ROTC at WSU for 5 years, was a schoolbus driver for Ellensburg School District for 5 years, and most recently was the school secretary at Lincoln Elementary School for the past 13 years. She was past president of PSE for seven years, the State PSE Grievance Committee, and State PSE Scholarship Panel, on the District PSE Safety and Longevity Committees, and a past member of Eastern Star and Arvida Club.

Survived by her daughters, Kim, Kelly, and Jody, and their father, Dr. William Benson, all of Ellensburg, WA; her parents, Robert W. and Maxine Callihan; her brothers, Robert and Todd Callihan, her sister Sheryl Callihan, all of Spokane; her grandmother, Lulu Cress, her uncle, Melvin Callihan, also of Spokane; her great-aunt, Mary Hashagen, and daughter Virginia, Ellensburg, WA; nine nieces and nephews; two great-nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Presbyterian Church, Ellensburg, on Thursday, October 18, 1990 at 5:30 p.m., the Rev. Don Meekhoff officiating. Burial will be held at tha Pleasant Prairie Cemetery earlier in Spokane.

A reception for family and friends will be held at the home of Brantley and Susan Paul at 105 Table Mt. Drive, after the service. The family suggests memorials to the Betsy Benson Library Memorial Shelf at Lincoln Elementary School or to the American Cancer Society.
