Rachel Mary Burgess was born 12 Apr 1849 in Kirkland, NY, daughter of James Burgess and Malinda Lewis. She married Henry Clark Comstock 4 Jul 1870 in Morris, Grundy, IL, they had three children: Gertrude and Eugene, twins, born 30 Jul 1875 and Ruth Ada, born 29 Mar 1882.

Gertrude died young, in 1877, Eugene died in 1893. Ruth married first Ray Mc Cormick and had one son Harold A. Mc Cormick. She married second, Edward Dwiggins and had another son Everett H. Dwiggins.

Rachel and Henry began their marriage farming in Dix Township in Ford County, IL then moved to Nebraska, living in Shelton where they owned their own farm then Gibbon. After Henry passed away Rachel moved to Anderson, Madison, Indiana to live with her daughter Ruth and husband Edward Dwiggins, where she died at 87 years of age from hypostatic pneumonia following a fractured hip suffered from a fall in their home.

She was buried with her husband in Watervliet Cemetery in Watervliet, MI.
