Funereal services for Loy Freeman, 92, Frankston, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 29, in Caroll-Lahr Funeral Home in Athens with Revs. Dr. Lyle Dabney and Dan Danhelm officiating.

Burial were in Frankston City Cemetery.

Miss Freeman died Wednesday, January 27, in a Tyler nursing home after a long illness.

She was born December 24, 1900, in Frankston to Pierce and Georgia Bacon Freeman.

She was a resident of Athens until 1957 when she moved to the Freeman farm at Frankston..

She was retired president of the First National Bank in Athens. She started her banking career at the Athens bank in 1924. Her first job was that of a stenographer, but in the years that followed she worked in nearly every department in the bank. The first position she held as an officer was that as assistant cashier in 1937. In 1943, she was promoted to vice president in charge of the loan department. In December 1946, she was elected president of the bank. She was one of the few women in the United States at that time holding this position.

She was honored November 3, 1985, with an open house commemorating "Loy Freeman Day" as preclaimed by Athens Mayor Herbert Gatlin Jr.

She was a past president of the Athens Business and Professional Women's Club, a past director of the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce and a member of the first United Methodist Church of Frankston.

Survivors include a daughter and a son-in-law, Joyce and C.C. "Kim" Camp of Missouri City; four grandchildren, Mare Freeman Camp of Missouri City, Loyana Helen Pollock of San Antonio, Bethena Joyce Atwood of Tyler, and Marion Leland Camp of Houston; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Connie Freeman of Athens and Mildred Freeman George of Logansport, La.; a nephew, Ben Leland Freeman Jr. of San Antonio; a niece, Georgianne Freeman of Waco.

Pallbeaers were C.C. "Kip" Camp, March Freeman Camp, Cody Camp, Leroy Pollock, Fred Atwood, John L. Lookabugh, C.J. Holloway and Joe Holloway.
