Mary is the daughter of Philo Taylor Farnsworth and Margaret Adams. She is their sixth child and third daughter. Mary Elizabeth was Philo's twenty-second child.

She is the paternal granddaughter to Reuben Farnsborth & Lucinda Kent Farnsworth and the maternal granddaughter to David Barkley Adams & Mary Cook Adams.

She is sister to David Barkley, Francis Marion (died in infancy), Laura Ellen, Alonzo Martindale, Susan Jane, and Isabella.

At age 3 yrs. Mary's mother contracted pneumonia and died. Mary and her brothers and sister were separated and she went to live with William & Elizabeth Robinson. She had a very happy life there.

She met her husband Aaron through his brother David. One day Mary and a friend went to visit David after he had his hand amputated due to an injury he received at the saw mill he worked at. David introduced Mary to his brother Aaron during his visit. On May 9, 1887, she married Aaron Robert Edwards -- they had a happy marriage.

Mary is the mother of Amelia, Margaret (Maggie), Albenia (who died in infancy), Aaron, Jr., Letha, Philo Taylor, Jesse (who died at age 19 and was to be married to Viola Jolley), twins Nellie (who died in infancy) & Mary Ann (Marie), LaRue, and Clyde. She also raised her granddaughter Colleen, who is her daughter Margaret's daughter.

Mary was buried on a very cold Tuesday on January 18, 1949, in the Provo City Cemetery between her son Jesse and beloved her husband Aaron. She was the last surviving child of Philo and Margaret Farnsworth.
