E. Essie Young, 87, of Scio, N.Y., died on March 26, 1993, in Concord, Calif., following a long illness.

She was born on March 30, 1905, in the Town of Willing, the daughter of Samuel and Emma Mae (Farnum) Jenison. On April 18, 1926, she married Willard M. Young in Wellsville, N.Y. He died in 1952.

Essie attended school in Shongo and was employed for many years as manager of the Scio Central School cafeteria. She was a member of the Richburg (N.Y.) Seventh Day Baptist Church and attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Wellsville. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club and the Genesee Valley Grange, both in Scio.

A lifelong resident of Seio, Essie recently began spending winters in California, living in her daughter's home.

Survivors include one son, Charles, of Scio; one daughter, Mary J. Ehmke, of Concord; one brother, Clarence Jenison, of Springville, N.Y.; one sister, Mary Lauser, of Allegany, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters - Carrie Allen, Marian Robbins, and Faye Clark - and by one brother, Charles.

A memorial service was held on March 28, 1993, in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Wellsville, with the Rev. Homer Henkel officiating. Burial was in Fairlawn Cemetery, Scio.
