Dora G. Davies, age 94, of Hot Springs, S.D., died February 7, 2006, at the Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs, S.D.
Dora was born in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan on July 9, 1911, to William and Pearl (Cakebread) Peck. At the age of three, her family moved to Highmore, S.D., where she attended school.
After marrying Lawrence Varick, they moved to Hot Springs and raised two sons.
Later, Dora married John (Red) Davies. After John's death, Dora resided in Oelrichs for a short time, and in 1991 she returned to Hot Springs. She worked as a cook in many restaurants and had a large group of followers who enjoyedher cooking. Quilting, sewing, cooking, gardening, visiting with friends, reading a good book, and traveling were her many hobbies.
Survivors include her two sons, Roger (Mary Jane) Varick of Hot Springs; Merlyne Varick and friend, Darlene, of Bemidji, Minn.; longtime friend, Velma McCollam of Hot Springs; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Varick, John (Red) Davies, seven sisters and one brother.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2006, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Pastor Bill Martin officiating. Committal services will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
