Bert Huffman, 76, former longtime resident of the Batavia Community, died Monday evening March 29, 1971 at the home of his grandson, William Huffman at Oneonta, Alabama, where he had been visiting the past six weeks.Funeral services will be Thursday,April 1st at 1 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia with the Rev. Kermit Black officiating. Burial will be in the Batavia cemetery.
Bert Huffman was born May 18, 1894 in Davis County near Floris. He was the son of Hiram and Alice Christy Huffman. His marriage to Lydia Canny took place May 3, 1916.She died in 1952. Huffman farmed in the Batavia community 40 years before going to Ottumwa to make his home with his son,Delbert Huffman, 320 N. Marion; and with his daughter, Ferne Huffman, Fairfield for the past eight years. Survivors include his daughter, Ferne, and two sons, Delbert, Ottumwa and Clell, Birmingham, Alabama. Also six grandchildren, several great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Rizor, Fairfield and Mrs. Clyde McClure, Eldon,
a brother, William Huffman, Eldon; and a half-sister, Mrs. Lillian Lepper, Galesburg, Ill.
