Marvin was the son of Walter King and Zella M. Shepherd Akers. Siblings were Melvin, Florence, Mamie, Jewell and James Edmond.His three marriages were to Marjorie Stowell in 1915 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. His second wife was Anna M. unk around 1923 in Woodson, Kansas and his third marriage was to Helen Zenith Hicks on February 4, 1948 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Paternal grandparents were James R. Akers and Malinda M. Cooper. Maternal grandparents were Edmund M. Shepherd and Sarah E. Hale.
