GATE CITY, Va. — Callie Mae ''Granny'' Darnell, 79, went to be with the Lord Thursday (Dec. 3, 1998) at Hillside Manor Nursing Home.
Born in Scott County, Va., on Dec. 16, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Will and Delia Tipton Edwards.
Mrs. Darnell attended Alley Valley Independent Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Monroe Darnell; her second husband, Carl Darnell; a son, Larry Lee Darnell; a grandchild, Freddie Darnell; two sisters; two half-sisters and four brothers.
Surviving are five daughters, Georgia Mae Ervin, Shirley Lawson, Virginia Grizzle and Carolyn Frazier, all of Gate City, Va., and Kathy Sexton, Yuma, Va.; four sons, Charles, Hubert, James and Earl Darnell, all of Gate City, Va.; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Mack Edwards, Kingsport; and several nieces nd nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Kathy Sexton, Yuma, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Willie Neeley and the Rev. George Willis officiating.
Music will be provided by the Midway Quartet.
Burial will be at the Craft Cemetery, Hill Station, Va.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
