A native of Cleveland County, she was a homemaker and was retired from the textile industry. She was a member of the Casar United Methodist Church. She was a noted quilt maker and had quilts in every state and several foreign countries. She was also known for her delicious dried apple fried pies.
She is preceded in death by her former husband Grady Lee Cooke; her parents, James Henry and Lobelia Wortman Poole; a son, Danny Ray Cooke; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Johnny and Minnie Poole, Jimmy and Lima Poole, Ezelle and Mary Poole, and S.L. Poole; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Ola and Zeb Johnson, Margaret Maggie and Ambrose Chapman, Minnie and William Perry, Darlus and Ovie Cooke, Selma Poole and Monnie Ella Poole; four grandsons, Pervie Philmore Drum II, Jeffery Neal Cooke, Eric Andrew Cooke, and Johnathan Patrick Cooke, and great granddaughter Mildred Jeanette Evans.
She is survived by fives sons and their wives, Delbert and Versey Cook and Jack and Marilyn Cooke, all of Shelby, Ralph and Judy Cooke of Charlotte, Hal and Pat Cooke of Forest City, and Flay and Janet Cooke of Fallston; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Starlene and Buck Bridges of Kings Mountain, Joyce and Pervie Drum of Cherryville, Judy and Arthur Ledford of Lawndale, and Shirley Cooke of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Pauline Poole of Morganton; a special friend, Betty Travis of Casar; 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Knob Creek United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at Stamey Funeral Home immediately following the service and at other times the family will be at the home of Judy and Arthur Ledford, 156 E. Stagecoach Trial, Lawndale, NC, 28090.
