Merle J. Fissel served as an Airman 1st Class in the 3565th Food Service Squadron, United States Air Force during the Korean War.

He was a son of Paul Trout Fissel and Annabel (Shuyler) Fissel.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on December 29, 1950.

He received his discharge from the Air Force on December 10, 1953.

He was originally from Orrtanna, Pennsylvania.

MERLE FISSEL, JR., BIGLERVILLE, DIES

Merle Fissel, Jr., 38, died at his home at B-Ville Heights, Biglerville, at 11:55 o'clock Tuesday evening. He had been in ill health for the last three months.

He is survived by his wife, Elsena Baldwin Fissel; two brothers, Henry Fissel, Orrtanna R. 1, and Fred Fissel, Orrtanna.

A native of Orrtanna, he was a member of the Adams County Fish and Game Association. He was a veteran of service in the United States Air Force.

Funeral arrangements being made through the Wilson Funeral Home in Fairfield are incomplete.

MERLE J. FISSEL

Merle J. Fissel, 38, died at his home in B-Ville Heights, Biglerville, Tuesday evening at 11:55 following an illness of three months.

Born in Orrtanna, he was a son of Paul and Annabelle Shuyler Fissel, Orrtanna R. 1, and the husband of Elsena Baldwin Fissel. He was a foreman for the J.A. Jones Construction Co., Middletown, and was a member of the Adams County Fish and Game Association.

He had served in the Air Force from December, 1950, until December, 1953, was discharged at James Connolly AFB, Waco, Texas, as an Airman First Class and then served in the Air Force Reserve until December 10, 1958.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home, Fairfield, with the Rev. Alfred K. Gotwalt officiating and burial will be in the Gettysburg National Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from Friday noon until the time for the service.

Funeral services for Merle Junior Fissel, 38, who died Tuesday at his home at B-Ville Heights, Biglerville, were held at the Wilson Funeral Home in Fairfield Friday afternoon. The Rev. Alfred K. Gotwalt officiated and interment was made in the Gettysburg National Cemetery. The bearers were Ross Deardorff, Robert Fissel, Richard and Russell Sharrah, Terry Shuyler, and Leroy Wetzel, Jr.
