When she was young, her parents moved the family to Dayton, Columbia, Washington where she attended school and met her future spouse. She married William Albert Cantrill on 20 March 1883 in Dayton. She and William had eight children: Viola Maude, Robert Avery, Lemuel Westley, Annie Belle, Julia Ata, Thomas Guy, Guy F, and Calvin VanCleve. "Annie" died on 22 February 1903 of yellow jaundice when her youngest was about 6 years of age.
