Employed as a test pilot for Douglas Aircraft Co., Harry Bogen (along with three others) was killed when the prototype U.S. Navy XR3D-1 (BuNo 0901, DC-5 #606) transport crashed on take-off from Mines Field (Los Angeles International Airport).
Left a widow, the former Miss Natalie Mitchell Webster and two step-children, Natalie and Jack Bernet. Also survived by his parents, Harry Walter and Margarite "Daisy" (Emerson) Bogen.
