James A. Cornell (1817-1897), son of Dr. William Cornell and Phebe Alcott, husband of Matilda Quick Cornell, dau. of Jonas and Ann Smith Quick. Died Mar. 25, 1897, aged 80y 3m 22ds (death certificate)

Canadice, March 30, 1897. The remains of James A. Cornell, who died Thursday at Centerfield, were brought here for internment. The funeral was held Monday at the church, Rev. Osburn officiating. He formerly resided here, but had lived in Canandaigua many years. His aged widow, two sons, John and Albion of Canandaigua, and two daughters, Mrs. Cyrus Swan, of this town, and Mrs. Horace Hyde, of Wayland, survive.

James A. Cornell, late of the Town of Canandaigua, County of Ontario, State of New York, died intestate on or about Mar 25, 1897. The co-administrators, Matilda H. Cornell, of Canandaigua, NY, and Maryette Swan, of Canadice, NY, as principal, and Hugh Wright and Mrs. Libbie Wright, as sureties in the sum of $300, dated Apr 6, 1897. The estate was less than $150. Heirs and next of kin were: Matilda H., Cornell, widow, at Canandaigua, NY; John Cornell, son, at Canandaigua, NY; Albin, son, at Canandaigua, NY; Maryette Swan, daughter, at Canadice, NY; and Rachel Hyde, daughter, at Wayland, NY.

Note: The burial place for Dr. William Cornell, father of James A. Cornell, was not located. His memorial was added to Tibbals Family Cemetery, but that cemetery did not exist until 1830. He died of consumption. Phebe Alcott, the mother of James A. Cornell, was married to David Tibbals at the time of her death and was buried in Tibbals Family Cemetery.
