Big Sandy--Rosina Anna "Rosie" Pegar, 83, died peacefully at her Big Sandy residence on Wednesday evening, March 28, 2007.
Rosary prayers will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Big Sandy. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at the Big Sandy Cemetery. Rosie was born Dec. 17, 1923, at the Black Coulee community south of Rudyard to August and Marion (Rideout) Diemert. She grew up on the family homestead 20 miles south of Rudyard. Rosie received her education in Rudyard, graduating from Rudyard High School in 1944. She continued her schooling and earned a teaching certificate. Rosie accepted a teaching position at the Rice Country School southeast of Big Sandy. In 1946 she met a local farmer, Victor Pegar, who became her life partner. They were married on Oct. 11, 1947, in Reno, Nev. They made their home on the Pegar farm southeast of Big Sandy, where Rosie worked diligently as a farm wife, homemaker and mother of seven. The Pegars were married 24 years when Victor died on Nov. 21, 1971. Rosie remained on the farm until 1981, when she moved to Billings to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She came back to Big Sandy in 1995 and lived there from that time on.
Rosie remained loyal to her Christian faith throughout her life. She was baptized at Black Coulee in 1924 and was confirmed at Hingham in 1940. She was an active member of St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Big Sandy for many years. Other memberships included the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Hopp-Illiad Homemaker's Club. Rosie enjoyed quilting and crocheting, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, flower and vegetable gardening, camping and fishing, bowling, and bird-watching. She also collected stamps and was a good cook. Rosie was a loving mother and grandmother. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son-inlaw, Thomas Nameth; and brother, Fritz Diemert. Survivors include her children, Victoria Nameth of Rhinebeck, N.Y., Roderick (Margie) Pegar of Kenmore, Wash., Duane (Jackie) Pegar of Billings, Timothy (Barb) Pegar of Havre, Ralph (Karen) Pegar of Big Sandy, Clyde (Shannon) Pegar of Sacramento, Calif., and David (Nancy) Pegar of Havre; brother, Lloyd Diemert of Big Sandy; sisters, Eleanor and Rena Wendland, both of Three Forks; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
