"Louie Thomas ROBINSON, November 22, 1904 - July 29, 2006 // COLUMBUS, GA. - Louie Thomas ROBINSON, 101, died at his residence Saturday, July 29,2006, in Columbus, GA. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., August 1, 2006, at Striffler-Hamby-Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel, with burial following at Parkhill Cemetery. Dr. LeBron MATTHEWS, Reverend David HELMS, and Reverend Kelly SASSER will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday, July 31, 2006, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Active pallbearers are Tommy ROBBINSON, Jeffery SULKA, Dan ROBINSON, Leslie McSWAIN, Pete MOORE, Alan WEBSTER and Mark WEBSTER, an Honor Guard representing the Columbus City Fire Department will pay tribute to Mr. ROBINSON, who was the oldest living retired firefighter in the city. Mr. ROBINSON was born on November 22, 1904, in Chattahoochee County, GA., he was the son of the late Henry David ROBINSON and Georgia Alberta PATE ROBINSON. He was married for 78 years to Emily Esther HARRIS ROBINSON. Mr. ROBINSON joined the Columbus Fire Department on October 11, 1925, and retired in 1969 with the rank of captain after forty-four years of service. As instructor for the Georgia State Fire Department and in association with Georgia Institute of Technology, he was responsible for the training of county fire department volunteers all over the state during the sixties. On the occasion of his 100th birthday in 2004, the Columbus Mayor singed a Proclamation honoring Captain ROBINSON. In part, the proclamation stated, "...he has demonstrated in countless ways his dedication to the welfare of others and has earned the respect and affection of people of all ages and walks of life." In addition, Mr. ROBINSON was a member and deacon at Eastern Heights Baptist Church and a Past Master of Midland Lodge No. 144. He is survived by his wife Emily Esther HARRIS ROBINSON; a daughter; two sons and daughters-in-law; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and a large number of nieces and nephews are included in the extended family.
