Dorothy Ellen (Gifford) Berry, Tunas, was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Dakota City, Iowa, the daughter of Chester and Wilsie Gifford. She went to be with her Lord Oct. 19, 2006.

She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, later working with the children of Fairview Baptist Church. She was a member at First Baptist Church of Buffalo. She graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in education. She went on to graduate from Drury University in 1964 with her master's in education. She taught school for 30 years, mostly as a special education teacher. She finished her career in Buffalo.

She was united in marriage with Byrl Berry on Sept. 4, 1954. They resided in Buffalo before settling on their farm in Lead Mine on the Niangua River. They were married for 52 blessed years. Although she was not a mother, she filled the role of mother, grandmother and great-grandmother for three generations of family members.

She was the secretary/treasurer of the Niangua Land Owners Association for several years, as well as being the secretary/treasurer for the AB Church. She loved the outdoors. She was an avid gardener and loved working side by side with her husband on their family farm. She loved animals, and enjoyed having Bricker and Nicki help her to raise many bottle calves. Anyone that knew her also knew that she kept a meal ready for anyone that might stop by their home. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Rosemary Graham, Margaret Larkin and Edna Gifford; and three brothers: Elmer, Merlin and Paul Gifford.
