David was a soldier in the Black Hawk War. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in Capt. Ozias Hale's Company, Pike County, Illinois, 4th Regiment, 3rd Bridgade, of Illinois Mounted Volunteers, called into service of the United States, on the requistion of Gen. Henry Atkinson, by the Governor's proclamation dated May 15, 1832. Mustered out Aug. 16, 1832. Enrolled June 19, 1832.
