Archie R. King, 82, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, in a nursing home. He was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Charleston. He was the widower of Elaine King, who died Feb. 12, 2003. He was a graduate of Charleston High School in 1942 and a graduate of LaSalle University in Chicago. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8322 and retired from Continental Bank in Chicago. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael; his parents, James and Lillie Ann; brothers, Clifton, Basil, Terrel, Charles, Audy, Oscar, Raymond, William and Harold; and sisters, Scottie, Ollie, Mildred, Wilson and Louise.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Amy King of Chicago; a son, James King of Naperville, Ill.; a sister, Pauline Nicely of Fort Smith; and three grandchildren, James Jr., Edmund and Leif.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
