John, beloved husband of Aileen McConkey for 63 years, died bravely and quietly at Providence Manor on Saturday, July 26, 2003. John was born in Outremont, Quebec on April 23, 1914. He will be greatly missed by Aileen and his children, Margaret, (Paul Spooner) Callista, (Don Markotich) John and Jane. He was "Grandpa" to Susanne and Eilzabeth, June and Mark, David, Melissa and Stephanie, and Amanda and Laura, and to great grandchildren Jane, Susan and little Esme. He was predeceased by his brother William and sisters Lois and Doris , and will be mourned by Gilbert Hinchliffe, husband of Doris. John was a longtime employee of the Bank of Nova Scotia, and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. John was a recent recipient of Papal Honours, by virtue of his lifelong commitment and service within the Catholic Archdioscese of Kingston. Friends will be received at Robert J. Reid & Sons Funeral Home, 309 Johnson Street on Tuesday, July 29 from 7-9 and Wednesday, July 30, 2-4 and 7-9. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Church, 392 Palace Road, Father O'Connor officiating Thursday July 31 at 11:00 a.m. burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. For those who wish memorial donations may be made to the Providence Manor, where John has received caring support for two and a half years.
