Floyd A. Abbott, age 85, died April 26, 1993 in Salt Lake City of Pneumonia.

He was born May 21, 1907 to Claude A. and Ellen Birch Abbott of West Jordan Utah. He married Delila Richards on June 25 1930. He graduated from the University of Utah School of Pharmacy in June, 1928, and followed that profession during his lifetime. In addition to being a pharmacist, he was sales manager for Smith Faus Drug Company and then Brunswig Drug after their merger.

He became sales representative for Eli Lilly & Company of Indianapolis and filled that positions until called into service for World War II. While at the University, he was a member of the ROTC and elected to the Scabbard & Blade, an honorary military fraternity. During World War II, he served in England as part of the staff planning the African Invasion. While in Algiers, he was liaison officer for the American, British, and French Army's medical supplies. He took part in five invasions in the Mediterranean area.

Returning home, he became Executive Office at Seymour Johnsons Field Hospital, Goldsboro, North Carolina and later became Executive Officer at the Don Ce Sar Hospital, Passa-a-grille, Florida. Later he was transferred to Kentucky. Upon completion of his active duty, Lt. Colonel Abbott was appointed Executive officer of the Veteran's Administration for the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska with headquarters in Seattle. Following his service there, he returned to Salt Lake City where he remained in the Army Reserved acting as Executive Officer of the 328th Army Hospital for over 12 years. He retired as Lt. Colonel after 37 years, 8 months of service on active and reserve duty.

An active Mason, he was a Knight Commander of the Court of Honor, member of the Shrine's El Kalah Temple, member of the Scottish Rite, Acacia Lodge #17, honorary member of Twin Peaks Lodge, President of National Sojourners Chapter #114, President of Heroes of '76. He served for eight years as pharmaceutical consultant to the Intermountain Unit of the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

He is survived by his wife, Delila M. Abbott; son, Richard; daughter-in-law, Anita; two grandsons, James and Christopher Abbott; brothers, George, Apple Valley, Calif. and Blaine (Jack), Salem, Oregon.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 30, 1993 at 12 noon at the Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 So. where friends may call 1/2 hour prior to services. Burial will be in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Funeral directors: Evans and Early Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to the Intermountain Unit of Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
