Obituary - Friday 23, 1902 Suffolk County News P.2
Francis Ward Wheeler who has been gradually failing in health of late, died at his home in this village on Sunday, aged 77 years. He was born at Smithtown and was the son of Squire Wheeler, a prominent resident of that place, and after whom the Wheeler Road, which runs obliquely from Patchogue to Hauppauge, was named. Mr. Wheeler came to Sayville in the year 1847, and shortly afterward married Miss Joannah Green. After her death he was twice married, the second wife being Mrs. Gaston of New York and the third, Mrs. Joseph Udall.
He owned considerable real estate in Hauppauge and also had quite a valuable piece of property just to the north of the railroad track between Green and Lincoln avenues in this village. About ten years ago he laid out a street and named it Cleveland avenue. His land was then divided into building lots and now there is quite a settlement along that thoroughfare.
Mr. Wheeler was school tax collector of the Sayville district for a number of terms and also acted as election clerk and inspector for several years. Deceased leaves four children, Henry F. Wheeler, Mrs. Blydenburgh of Morris Park, Mrs. Luther Wheeler and Mrs. George Lynes, of Meriden, Conn.,and two brothers, Wesley J. Wheeler, of Islip, and Andrew Wheeler, of New York. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. H. S. Still officiating. Interment was in the Union cemetery.

He was a brother of: John F, Harriet Jane, Erastus Monroe, Andrew M., Wesley J., Phebe J., and Frank.
He was the father of: Henry F., Harriet J., Bertha S., and Emily E.
