DIES IN PUNXS'Y

Long Illness Ends for Prominent Former State Senator LELAND S. NORTH - Prominent resident and business man of Punxsutawney and a former member of the Pennsylvania State Senate, died at 3:30 a. m. today in his home in Rockland Avenue. Death culminated a year's illness.

A son of J.[sic] Taylor and Anna (Neal) North, he was born January 26, 1886, in Young Township, Jefferson County. He was educated in the public schools, attended Indiana State Normal School and was graduated from the School of Pharmacy, University of Pittsburgh. He later attended the National Law School and served as his father's secretary while a member of the 64th Congress.

He was a long-time secretary of the Jefferson County Republican Committee and was elected to the Senate in 1924. Still later he was in the mercantile and drugstore business in Punxsutawney and for a time was connected with the Punxsutawney Spirit. Mr. North was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a Rotarian and of John Jenks Lodge, F. & A. M.

On September 25, 1905 he was married to Miss Bess B. Beyer, whom he leaves, together with two sons:
~ Lieut. Robert B. North in Indiana;
~ Private Fred North;

Two sisters:
~ Mrs. J. T. Thompson of Home;
~ Miss La Rue North of Philadelphia;
And two brothers:
~ Major Charles North of Seattle, Wash.,
~ Earl North of Punxsutawney.

Services have been arranged for his late residence at 2:30 p. m Saturday. The Rev. Messrs. Herman Humke of the Presbyterian. Church and Roy Decker of the Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, the Masonic ritual being exemplified at the grave.
