Millie was born in Kentucky to Joseph and Elizabeth W (Hunt) Smith. She moved to Putnam County, Indiana with her family when young, married John Clodfelter Dec 18, 1849 in Putnam County, Indiana and had 7 children with him, Joseph Putnam, David Crockett, Solomon, James William, Alexander Bower, Almarinda "Allie" E, and Clarinda "Clara" M. By 1860 they were living in Mercer County, Missouri. John died in the Civil war in 1862 and Millie later married John Jackson Vanderpool and had 5 more children, John, Lucinda Arabelle, Mary S, Martha E, and Caroline Hestoria. She is buried next to her daughter Allie and they share the stone. In June 2009, the stone was laying on it's side and had fallen off it's pedestal. We righted it at that time. Millie's name is on the left side of the stone and is very hard to read. Allie's is on the right and is easier to see.

I have pension records for Millie's husband John Clodfelter and in there, they ask for the spelling of her given name, which she replies as Millia.

Sister to Mary Elizabeth Smith.

Millie was my GGG Grandmother.

She was only 16 when she was married to John Clodfelter who was 24. In 1850 they are living with John's mother Catherine along with his sister Sarah McGaughey and her 4 children. John's father had died when John was 5 years old. He had 10 other siblings with 2 being younger than himself.

My line goes down through Millie and John Clodfelters son, James William Clodfelter.
