Funeral Services for Prominent Candler County Citizen to be Held Today
Metter, Ga., Sept 2 -- Joshua Everett, aged 89, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. B. Kennedy, here today at 11 o'clock after only a few days' illness. He was one of the section's oldest and best known citizens, having a large relationship in both Bulloch and Candler counties.
He was a member of the Lake Primitive Baptist church where his membership had been for nearly half a century. He served as church clerk and had been a deacon of his church since 1911. He was affectionately known to all who knew him as Uncle Josh. In spite of his age he led an active life up until a few days ago.
He was in his earlier life one of the largest planters of this section, and was the first clerk of the Candler county Superior court having been elected soon after the county was created. This position he filled for eight yars.
